Santiago Bernabéu Stadium – Key Information

  • Opened: The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium opened on 14 December 1947.
  • Named After: It was renamed in 1955 in honour of former Real Madrid president Santiago Bernabéu, who oversaw its construction and helped transform the club.
  • Capacity: Following its extensive redevelopment, the stadium accommodates approximately 83,000 spectators.
  • Major Finals: The Bernabéu hosted the 1964 European Championship final and the 1982 FIFA World Cup final.
  • Retractable Roof and Pitch: Its modernisation introduced a retractable roof and an advanced retractable pitch system, allowing the stadium to host football, concerts and other major events.
